Celebrating Summer in All Its Sweaty Wonder

DSC09262 DSC09402

I will never be known as Summer’s biggest fan.  Between the humidity and what it does to my hair and the fact that, on the hottest days (last Sunday, for example), you can experience the wonder of feeling the sweat roll down your body to your nether regions while doing nothing more strenuous than standing still, it’s just not pretty.

However, the road to Happy is not paved with I Hate This.

So I’ve decided to start a list of things to love about summer.  With it, I can ignore the nether sweat and the fact that my hair has gotten so bushy that I’ve changed my Facebook profile pic to Bozo the Clown for the duration.

Here’s mine so far:

  • Eating outdoors.  Everything tastes better when mixed with fresh air.
  • My daily walk is so easy.  Just grab the keys, slide on a pair of comfy shoes and go.
  • Laundry on the line
  • Sundresses!
  • Butterflies
  • Baby toes.  Now that my nieces and nephews are grown, I only get random sightings of baby toes in the summer.
  • Flower gardens – especially when someone else is doing all the work…

Please feel free to add your summer fave’s!

*the breeze blowing through the many windows of my house

*drinking cold rose in my backyard with good friends

*kids with dirty feet and bodies who sleep SO hard after a good day outside

*cicadas (really… I do like them)

    *a lack of routine!

  2. Barb McMahon says:

    Mmmm… lovely!

And don’t forget the crickets – they take up where the cicadas leave off.

reclining on the deck with a good book…
the sound of children’s laughter floating in the air…

there’s a set of babytoes near me available for the viewing/tickling anytime…

  4. Margie says:

    Freshly cut grass…

Watching my beloved read the GLobe and Mial on the deck, after he has cut the grass…

    Real tomatoes…

    Ontario sweet corn…

    Fresh peaches…Yum…

    • Barb McMahon says:

      Oh,yummy!

I will always remember walking through your parents’ tomato field, picking and eating the ripe tomatoes, still warm from the sun, with the juices dripping off my chin and elbow…

  5. Beverley says:

    definitely fresh peaches – and raspberries and corn . . . .

green, green and more shades of green, as well as all the lushness of the colourful flowers

    rain and thunderstorms

air that’s (often) actually fresh and delicious

    beautiful skies – etc!

  6. Barb McMahon says:

Love this list, everyone! keep ’em coming!

  7. heidi says:

I love the rich, lush, abundance of life everywhere you look…thick trees, dense bushes of Black-Eyed Susans and daisies…Lake Huron in all its loveliness…

Spring and Fall are my favourites; those seasons of transition feel best to me, but I can love the summer too!

  8. Deborah says:

    No socks!
Breezes that feel soothing and not painful (think February).
Lakes that sparkle and dance rather than glower malevolently at you under heavy skies.
    Cheap utility bills!!!!!
Politicians on vacation so less blah, blah, blah…
And peaches, tomatoes, fresh crispy beans…
Basil from garden to table in under 20 seconds!
I wonder, will we find anyone to post thoughts about winter? ; )

  9. Barb McMahon says:

You read my mind, Deborah. I’m planning to turn this into a seasonal post (and I agree with Heidi – spring and autumn are so easy to love!)

I can’t wait to see the responses!
