Let’s Celebrate Autumn!

Autumn has begun!

I know Autumn doesn’t officially get started for another couple of weeks, but I love it so much, I’m willing to start early.  It’s September and the leaves in our area have started to turn, so let’s call it Autumn.

And just like we did for Summer, it’s time to list all the good things we love about this time of year.

My personal favourites for this time of year:

  • Sweaters.  When you put one on and wrap it around you, it makes you feel comforted and strengthened in a way no other clothing can do.
  • Swishing through the dry leaves on the sidewalk.  I’m 49 years old and I’ve never outgrown that joy.  And I likely never will.
  • We can still eat outdoors for awhile longer.  We just need to layer on the sweaters!
  • As the days get shorter, the house feels cozier.
  • When you’ve been inside and someone comes in from outside and they have that wonderful chilly air smell.

I could go on and on, but this is your list, too.  Please tell me what you love about Autumn.

Before we start the weekend, I just want to say a quick thank you to two bloggers who have featured my work in the last couple of weeks.  Grace and Erin, you’re the best!

And if you’ve come here from those two sites, thanks so much for stopping by.  Please take a look around and maybe say hello.  I’m always happy to hear from you!

Autumn is about warmth, which some around me find an odd idea given summer, but you see, summer is about heat, where autumn is the warmth of restfulness, a winding up and winding down.

Yes! Autumn, to me, seems quiet. Where summer is a vibrant shout of joyful abundance, autumn is the calmer, yet still sun-kissed, presence of burning embers. Autumn might be the introverted cousin of summer!

I’m excited about autumn too. I love the smells of autumn: pumpkin, spice, fall leaves… yum.

I love covering my flowers to escape the frost and getting a few more days out of the blooms. I love the fall mums at the supermarket, and pumpkins on the porch. I love all the going back to school stuff, and the kids coming home hungry from a day of learning. ..Oh and Macintosh apples.

Just like the critters that come out from their hibernation in the spring, I feel like I come out of the hibernation of air conditioned buildings and vehicles in autumn. Summer in Windsor isn’t pleasant for some of us – way too hot, humid and dirty.

It sounds like Autumn is a big sigh of relief for all of us…

I love the crispness and invigoration of the air. I love the coloured leaves, even after they’ve fallen, and the gorgeous countryside with all shades of leaves massed in a colourfest of nature. I love the feeling of a fresh, stimulating new beginning after the heat of summer.

    …”a colourfest of nature.” Beautiful!

The big maple in my front yard turning the most gorgeous shade of yellow and making my kitchen glow all day long. I can’t wait!!

    Wonderful!
